If You Can’t Have the Job You Love, Love the Job You’re In
While many people say work is called work for a reason, its still possible to find enjoyment and inspiration no matter what your position. Instead of changing jobs every time you feel dissatisfied, consider changing the way you think about your job. Here are a few tips to make your workdays brighter:• Build relationships at work. Get to know your coworkers on a personal level. Ask them about their interests, families, or even weekend plans. Connecting on a personal level can often make it easier to collaborate on a professional level. • Hone the skills you enjoy. Even if you aren't able to use them in your daily job, you should keep them fresh for when the opportunity arises. • Concentrate on what you enjoy about your job such as your coworkers, your schedule, your pay, benefits, etc. So many people focus on the negatives that they quickly forget the positives. • Leave work at work. Before you leave work, take a few minutes to jot down last-minute projects and tasks you will have to deal with the following day. Then leave the list (and your worries) at work. • Reconnect with what first interested you in your job the companys reputation, your job position, or learning opportunities. • Think about what it takes to do a great job in your role, and grade yourself in comparison. Look for ways you can improve your approach to your job and take more ownership in your duties. • Get involved with every training course, extra curricular activity, and committee you can. Not only will you build skills and learn new, interesting things, but you will also become more employable should you decide to look for another position. Remember, your life is more than your job. Avoid tying your identity solely to the job you do.
